ABO Desire is a Chinese BL drama — and the first-ever mpreg series set in the Omegaverse. Just as we were getting used to the steady stream of Chinese BLs, this one surprised and excited us with its bold, dominance-filled world.
Before getting into the details, I realized something: since this is the first Omegaverse drama, viewers who haven’t read ABO or mpreg stories before might find some of the relationships and dynamics a bit confusing. To make things even more interesting, the show also features the rare Enigma type, which adds another layer to the story.
That’s why it helps to understand the basics of the Omegaverse before diving in. So, I’ll share a quick guide to the universe and the characters to make the experience smoother and more enjoyable.😊
What is Omegaverse / ABO?
In the Omegaverse, people are divided into three different “secondary sexes”: Alpha, Beta, and Omega. Each of these roles comes with distinct biological traits, social dynamics, and instincts that shape their interactions, relationships, and place in the hierarchy.

Alphas are the leaders and protectors of the Omegaverse, naturally strong and often taking on dominant roles in their communities.
Even among Alphas, there’s a hierarchy based on strength, and in ABO Desire, the main characters are S-Class Alphas, sitting at the very top.
What makes Alphas so fascinating is not just their power, but also their biology. They can impregnate Omegas (mpreg), and they have a strong instinctive response to Omega pheromones.
During an Omega’s heat, these pheromones can trigger intense attraction and a powerful protective instinct, making it hard for Alphas to resist. When Alfases enter their own hormonal cycle, known as rut, they feel the need to spend that time with an Omega—otherwise, it can become dangerous for both themselves and those around them.

Omegas sit at the bottom of the Omegaverse hierarchy, and their lives are heavily influenced by their biology.
They go through hormonal cycles, like heat, which make them naturally compatible with Alphas—but can also leave them vulnerable in their communities.
You’ll notice that powerful Alpha pheromones can even trigger heat in Omegas, sometimes without them realizing it. This is why Omegas are often portrayed as fragile or sensitive in stories.
In ABO Desire, for example, the one Omega among the main characters faces the most challenges and unfair treatment, which really shows how difficult life can be for an Omega. What makes his character so compelling is how these biological and social pressures shape his experiences, making his journey both emotional and relatable.
Betas are different from Alphas and Omegas because they don’t have those strong biological instincts. They don’t produce pheromones, and they aren’t affected by the pheromones of others.
In many ways, you can think of them as “normal humans” within the Omegaverse—they can act and think without the overwhelming pull of biology that governs Alphas and Omegas.

Enigmas are the rarest and most powerful beings in the Omegaverse. They sit at the very top of the hierarchy, with unmatched strength, intelligence, and unique biology.
Even the strongest Alphas would find it nearly impossible to challenge them.
Biologically, Enigmas are extraordinary. They can impregnate any gender, and their pheromones give them almost complete dominance over Alphas, Omegas, and Betas alike.
Even the potent pheromones of an Omega in heat have little effect on them. These traits make Enigmas not only biologically superior but also socially dominant.
In the ABO Desire universe, Enigmas rarely appear, but their presence alone can shift the balance of power. They aren’t just symbols of strength—they are mysterious and influential beings who reshape the hierarchy and the roles of other characters.
In short, Enigmas are the legendary peak of the Omegaverse: rare, powerful, and awe-inspiring, capable of altering the balance of both biology and society.
🔸More About the Omegaverse
Heats (Ω):
Simply put, this is when omegas become extra emotional, sensitive, and their pheromones go wild. It’s their most vulnerable period and can be hard to handle without help.
Ruts (α):
Alphas experience their own version of it — full of aggression, desire, and a strong urge to claim their mate.
Pheromones:
Think of them as unique scents everyone gives off. They show attraction, mood, and dominance, and no two people smell the same.
Suppressants (💊):
Pills or shots used to calm down or hide heats and ruts. Many omegas take them to live more comfortably in public.
Mating Bonds:
When two people connect deeply, they can form a powerful bond — sometimes marked by a bite.
In many stories, that mark means forever; once bitten, their pheromones only react to that one person.

This series contains dubcon and noncon scenes, which may be disturbing for some viewers. Still, it’s worth remembering that the story takes place in an Omegaverse universe — a world where characters are driven more by biological instincts than by the moral standards of the modern world.
The concept of consent doesn’t disappear entirely in these settings, but it’s often stretched or reinterpreted to fit the logic of the universe.

ABO Desire My Review
I went into Desire with pretty low expectations. Honestly, I thought seeing the Omegaverse in a live-action drama would be awkward or even cringe — but it proved me wrong. The way the show explained the
Omegaverse through a sci-fi lens, linking it to a virus that alters DNA and creates different types like Alphas and Omegas, actually made sense. It gave the world a logical foundation instead of just relying on the usual fantasy tropes.
What surprised me most was that, instead of following a typical Omegaverse storyline, the drama leaned more toward a psychological thriller. And on top of that, it even introduced an Enigma — one of the rarest and most fascinating classifications in the Omegaverse universe.
The production quality was also surprisingly high. I heard the producer and screenwriter are billionaires, and it definitely shows — nothing feels cheap or rushed. It’s polished, stylish, and you can clearly see the effort behind it. The OST, sung by the lead actors, was absolutely beautiful.😊

Hua Yong impressed me the most. He managed to embody both sides of his identity — the fragile, graceful “omega” façade and the sharp, manipulative Enigma personality.
What’s even funnier is that, despite early spoilers, many viewers still believed he was a real omega! He didn’t just manipulate Shen Shao You — he fooled us too. His performance was both captivating and unsettling to watch.
Huang Xing was an excellent casting choice. He balanced vulnerability and menace so naturally that both sides of Hua Yong felt believable. The fake smiles, subtle glances, tears, bursts of anger, and obsessive devotion — all perfectly delivered.
Yes, what Hua Yong did was morally questionable — lying to Shen Shao You, manipulating his emotions, trying to make him his “exclusive omega.” But from his point of view, pretending to be an omega was the only way to get close to an S-class alpha. Still, there were moments when he crossed the line, and I genuinely felt bad for Shen Shao You.
What I appreciated, though, was how their relationship broke away from traditional Omegaverse conventions. The “top” was the scheming, emotionally complex one, while the “bottom” was strong and masculine. It was a refreshing twist that felt surprisingly well-written.

As for the second couple — they were actually the reason I kept watching. Their story had all the elements I love in dramatic
Omegaverse plots: an alpha who despises omegas and an omega who hides his identity while secretly in love with him.
Gao Tu, the omega, was the most heartbreaking character for me. He was both a victim of his own choices and of his social and economic circumstances. Life was already cruel to him as an omega, and pretending to be a beta just to survive made it even worse. His boss, Shen Wen Lang, hated omegas so much that Gao Tu had no choice but to keep lying.
Shen Wen Lang, on the other hand, was frustratingly thick-headed — yet that’s exactly what gave the show its chaotic charm.
He does eventually learn the truth, regret his actions, and chase after Gao Tu, but everything happens far too quickly. What should’ve been a slow, emotional journey of realization and redemption is rushed into a single episode.
There’s barely any time for proper closure — no deep confession, no meaningful apology, no moment that lets their story breathe. Even though their relationship had so much potential, it ended up feeling incomplete.
Overall, the series started off strong but unfortunately ended on a weaker note. Still, I don’t regret watching it — experiencing my first Omegaverse drama was genuinely enjoyable. The soundtrack was beautiful too, adding real emotion to the scenes. I truly hope this opens the door for more Omegaverse adaptations in the future, because there are so many of us who love this kind of world.
